I grew up in an artistic home. My father, a noted architect and my imaginative mother instilled in me a combination of creativity and a discerning eye for fine craftsmanship. His appreciation for simple, timeless design and detail mixed with her unbridled creativity taught me to find inspiration in the world around me.
Whether my father was meticulously packing the trunk of a car for a family road trip or working on a jigsaw puzzle by the fire, he unconsciously taught me how geometry and space work together to define a space and create patterns.
I soaked up subtle lessons in color and texture while spending countless hours at the fabric store with my mother as she designed clothes to be made from fine textiles. Her process of teaching me to cook was simply…”smell the spices and see what goes together.” This type of instruction left much room for creative freedom and exploration.
